What are system maps?
The system maps developed by the EIT Circular Economy Community consolidate two databases:
- Circular economy-related initiatives of the past years initiated, funded or supported by the EIT Knowledge and Innovation Communities, including EIT RawMaterials, EIT Climate-KIC, EIT Digital, EIT Food, EIT Manufacturing and EIT Urban Mobility.
- Initiatives related to a circular economy in the portfolios of selected European stakeholders.
These maps are a useful tool for portfolio management, enabling the creation and implementation of a intersectional strategy in the EIT Circular Economy Community, but also serve as an access point for any interested stakeholder that wishes to scour the landscape of circular economy innovation funded and/or created by the KICs or other European stakeholders.
Why does it matter?
Based on these maps, the EIT Knowledge and Innovation Communities can better understand where their strengths, weaknesses, overlaps and synergies lie to trigger cross-innovation and collaboration, boosting outreach and influence in driving the European Circular Economy agenda. Moreover, the tool enhances transparency and enables collaboration within the ecosystem, positioning the EIT Circular Economy Community closer to other European Commission agencies or services that hold similar tools, such as EASME Data Hubs and CORDIS.
